The House That Love Built.

Our story began here. On February 14, 1987, the doors to Southern Colorado’s first Ronald McDonald House opened on Logan Avenue—beginning a legacy of keeping families close that continues today.

How it all began

In the early 1980s, Dr. John Genrich recognized a need in Southern Colorado: families with seriously ill children needed a place to stay together and close to their child’s medical care. With the support of dedicated community partners, that vision became a reality.

On February 14, 1987—Valentine’s Day, the doors opened to “The House That Love Built” at 311 N. Logan Avenue in Colorado Springs. The timing was especially fitting for a home created through the love and generosity of a community committed to keeping families together.

For more than three decades, the Logan Avenue House served as a home away from home for thousands of families, laying the foundation for the mission that continues today. In 2019, that legacy entered a new chapter with the opening of Ronald McDonald House Southern Colorado’s larger, expanded House.

A New House. The Same Heart.

As pediatric care in Colorado Springs grew, so did the need for a larger home where families could stay together and close to their child’s care.

On August 19, 2019, RMHSC opened the doors to our current Ronald McDonald House at 4223 Royal Pine Drive, directly across from Children’s Hospital Colorado, Golisano Children’s Hospital, Colorado Springs.

The new 25,000-square-foot House was thoughtfully designed to expand our capacity, better serve the needs of families and provide a welcoming home away from home for up to 20 families each night.

Bringing this new House to life was truly a community effort. Ronald McDonald House Southern Colorado is grateful to RTA Architects, who designed the House, and Colarelli Construction, who built it, along with the many donors, partners and community members whose generosity helped turn a vision for the future into a home for families.

Today, families travel from across Southern Colorado and beyond to access pediatric care in Colorado Springs. Our House gives them a place to stay together, rest and recharge while remaining close to the care their child needs.

Going Beyond Our Walls.

Our mission has never stopped at the front door.

In 2008, Ronald McDonald House Southern Colorado opened the first Ronald McDonald Family Room in Colorado, extending the comfort and support of the House directly into the hospital. Today, our Family Room inside Children’s Hospital Colorado, Golisano Children’s Hospital, Colorado Springs gives families a place to rest, recharge and find support—just steps from their child’s bedside.

Together, our cornerstone programs help remove barriers, ease everyday burdens and keep families close throughout their child’s medical journey.
